Still holding steady

I’ve managed to hold my current weight for a month now.  Heck, I even lost another pound!

I finished physical therapy for my hip - it was better for a while, but it’s pretty much back to where it was now.  I’m back to exercising though - it doesn’t seem to make my hip any better or worse, so I’ll keep going for the sake of the rest of my body (I couldn’t stand to see my abs turn back into flab!).

I’m just avoiding those particular moves that seem to bother it most like deep yoga stretches, moves that require quickly moving from the floor to standing and ab moves that involve lifting my legs straight up while lying on my back (my hip snaps like crazy).

The weather is turning colder so most of my activity is done indoors now.  This is when it’ll be really nice to have have the treadmill.

Reached my goal!

So I’ve finally reached my weight goal!  Feels really good…

Unfortunately, I’ve had to stop exercising for 2 weeks while I’m in physical therapy for my hip.  It’s actually my sacroiliac joint that’s giving me problems.  Seems like there’s some arthritis in the joint and my pelvis is slightly twisted.  So we’re working to get it twisted back the other way - can you say "OUCH!"?  Until the joint gets stronger in its correct position, my physical therapist doesn’t want me to do any exercises that might move it back the other way.  It’s really stressing me out both mentally and physically not to work out, but I’m trying to tell myself it’s for the good of my body in the long run.

My goal and beyond…

So I’ve now reached my original weight loss goal and even gone a little beyond.  I started out at 184.5 pounds with a weight loss goal of 40 pounds - and so far, I’ve lost 44 pounds.  I had no idea of even how much that actually was until I went to pick up a 25 pound bag of cat litter the other day - I could barely lift it!  I thought that if this is only 25 pounds, imagine carrying an extra 44 around on my body!

So needless to say, I’m more than happy with my progress.  Ideally, I’d like to drop just 5 more and introduce more flexibility into my workout routine.  I did a little yoga for the first time in a long time the other day and it was REALLY hard for me.  Plus, I felt like I might have pulled something in my right hip as I did my half-moon pose.  So I have to probably add a little more flexibility in with my cardio and strength training mix.

Slow month for weight loss…

July has been a very slow month for weight loss for me.  Only 3 pounds lost in the last 4 weeks.   One of those weeks I was on vacation though, so there wasn’t much exercising (or dieting) going on.  Also, I think I got into an exercise rut.  I got comfortable doing the same routine and failed to continue to challenge myself.  This week, I started to re-introduce some new things and it felt good - and difficult - which is good.  I need to pump it up a bit if I’m going to meet my goal weight of 135 by the end of the summer.

A little more progress…

Three more pounds down - not earth-shattering, but still progress.  So that’s a total of 36 pounds lost.  Only 4 pounds away from my original goal - yipee!  Problem is, I think I can go a little further.

I was looking at some height and weight charts this weekend and saw that according to some of them, I’m still actually a bit overweight for my size and frame.  My BMI is healthy, but I still fall on the high end of healthy.  Kind of disappointing, but that just means I have to work a little harder.

So…I think that 135 would be a better weight for me.  I’m going to shift my goal a little bit and try to lose another 13 pounds from where I am right now.  When I was at 184, losing 40 pounds seemed like an impossible goal, but from where I’m sitting now, 13 pounds is totally do-able. :)

Plus, I was rooting around in my attic looking for some smaller size pants and found a HUGE stack of size 6-8 shorts and jeans.  Apparently, I was that size for a long time - and that’s the size I want to be again.  Plus Mike will be happy if I don’t have to buy more short and jeans. :)

I’m hoping to be at my goal by the beginning of the fall.  Right now, I’m fighting the flu, so it’s been tough to keep up with exercising this week (it’s tough right now just to have the energy to get out of bed and get a shower, nevermind to do 30 minutes of hard-core cardio), but I’ve been trying to fit in what I can.

Holding steady…

I’ve dropped a few more pounds and my exercise habits are holding steady.  I seem to be stuck here for a little longer than I’d like - I wish things would speed up a bit.  I feel like I’m giving it my all and pushing myself to work out every day even when all I want to do sometimes is just give in and lay down and take a nap - especially after working all day, communting an hour home, running my kids to their various activites…sometimes I don’t get around to exercise until after 9 at night.  And all I really want to do is just go to bed!  But I’ve been good - so good…so why aren’t things moving along faster?  But then I look at my original goals on this site - to lose 40 pounds and and tone my body.  Since January, I’ve lost 33 pounds - and I’ve definitely toned my body.  So I need to re-group.  I’m not that far off - so close to my goal…

30 Pounds Down!

I haven’t posted in quite a while, but I just wanted to update anyone who’s interested on my progress.

I’ve managed to lose a total of 30 pounds so far - I’m pretty proud of myself!

And even more importantly, I’ve kept up with my new, healthier habits.  I exercise at least 5 days a week, alternating between cardio, strength training and pilates.  For my birthday, I got a new pair of running shoes and for Mother’s Day, I got a new treadmill.  The treadmill occupies a large portion of my living room now, but you know what - this is a new priority in my life, so I guess that’s appropriate!  My home won’t be in Good Housekeeping any time soon, but maybe my abs will be in Shape. ;)

Speaking of which, after all my hard work, I’ve gotten down to a size 10 in most shorts, pants and capris (those Gap jeans in a size 10 are still a bit snug, but I’m working on it! :). And if I do say so myself, my abs are looking pretty good for a menopausal woman of my age that’s had 3 children and a total hysterectomy!  Okay, maybe not Shape-worthy, but still…better than they were, that’s for sure.

My eating habits have also stayed healthy - I pack myself fresh fruits and good-for-me snacks for work every day.  This is getting even easier now that summer is almost here.  Matthew and I have even planted our own veggie garden this year.

The running…well, I’m trying, but I don’t know if I’ll ever be a true runner.  I take my dogs for a walk/jog 2-3 days a week to the local park - does that count as running?  Once in a while, we’ll even sprint…I don’t know - I think I’m more of a pilates girl.  But what I’m learning is that whatever exercise makes you KEEP DOING IT - that’s what you should do.

Speaking of which…let me go sneak in a quick workout before bed.

Quick weight update…

Haven’t posted in a while - life picks up speed in the spring!

I’ve lost another 4 pounds for a total of 23 - and have gone down to a size 12 jeans!  I still have a long way to go, but I’m making good progress.

My workouts have been a little less intense lately because of some health issues, but I’m trying to keep doing as much as I can - at least 30 minutes every day of some sort of exercise.  And I just got a new pair of running shoes and actually tried jogging today with my dog…who knows - maybe I’ll be a runner yet!

Down 5 more pounds!

Just a quick update on my progress - I’m down 5 more pounds since my last post - yay!

I’ve been keeping up with my exercise program - I try to fit in at least a 30 minute workout on the days that I work and at least one hour on the days I have off.  I alternate between cardio, strength training, yoga and pilates - switching it up keeps my interest.  And now that the weather is getting nicer, I will add some walks to my exercise routine as well.  I haven’t been able to post each workout here every day, but I’m going to try to do better with that this month.

And yesterday, I tried my first exercise “boot camp” at the urging of my friend Cheryl.  I have to say, I actually enjoyed myself.  Six months ago (or even three months ago), I NEVER would have been able to keep up!  But I was very proud of myself - I made it through the whole one hour class and am only mildly sore - and only in my hamstrings - today.

I’m going to add the boot camp to my routine as a regular workout on Saturday mornings.

Now that I’ve lost almost 20 pounds, people are starting to notice and are asking how I’ve done it.  I let them know it’s not magic - I’m just eating less and moving more.

And since I’ve gotten into a good exercise routine, I have momentum to continue and hopefully lose the 30 more extra pounds I’m carrying around…could I maybe fit back into that 2-piece by the end of the summer????

12 pounds down!

I still have a long way to go, but the workouts are getting easier (especially the abs workouts - I’m finding that I actually ENJOY them - imagine that!) and things are jiggling just a little bit less.
